The School of General Studies expresses Handong's
commitment that all students and future leaders
be educated in basic scholarship and the Liberal
Arts. Students take courses from the School of
General Studies in order to broaden their understanding
of the world, explore subjects for future study,
and to balance the more specialized study of their
majors with a wider field of learning. One area
under the administration of this school is Understanding
Christianity which includes courses ranging from
basic introduction to the Christian faith to more
specific courses in Christian theology. Courses
are offered in the areas of Christian doctrine
and belief, Christian life and worldview, discipleship
training, Creation versus Evolutionary Science,
and the application of Christian faith to one's
life and work.
The School of General Studies also offers courses in Literature, History, Education, Psychology, Counseling, Mathematics and Science. This diverse offering of subjects, at the general level, assists students in choosing their major and provides them a well-rounded study of life and the world in which they live. General requirement courses include English Communication and Lab, Computer Courses, and the study of Chinese Characters.
Such courses give students practical professional skills for confidence in the workplace. Courses in art, music, and physical education can also be taken. Sign Language and Braille courses are offered to encourage compassion and service to our neighbors.
