Counseling and Guidance
Student life at Handong is based on a holistic concept in which each student is
viewed as an intellectual, emotional, spiritual, physical, and social being. Individual
guidance is provided for students in areas of personal difficulty or adjustment,
interpersonal relationships, emotional stress, academic issues, and vocational
choice. Each student is assigned an academic advisor and a team professor to assist
with academic development as well as spiritual and career guidance. ¡¤
Medical Care
Medical care is available on the first floor of dormitory #3. Each student is
expected to provide for his or her own immunization protection. Several hospitals
are located in the Pohang area. Handong does not provide a group medical plan
for students to cover sickness and accidents while attending the university,
so that students should provide their own. ¡¤
Dormitory Residency
Dormitory residency is required of all freshmen and sophomores. Rooms are designed
to hold 3 to 4 students. Aside from basic dormitory facilities, each residence
hall is equipped with a study room.
Through dorm life, students can learn to understand and respect one another.
Most students enjoy dorm life and they think of their dorm as their home. Students
mature by living in the dorm, learning to be in charge of their own lives and
to be independent in their thinking, planning and goal setting.
There are six dormitories, and one is exclusively for senior students. Laundry
facilities are located on each floor. Many students use the meeting rooms located
on each floor for fellowship, watching TV and sharing together.
Students develop life-long friendships and relationships while being involved
in activities, clubs, and dorm-life. Students have access to various computer
labs on campus and can participate in a physical fitness program using a local
sports facility or the exercise room located in one of the dormitories. The
reading and prayer rooms are for students' use anytime during the day or week.
Students are required to be inside their dormitories by 11:00 p.m. unless otherwise
permitted by the residence hall management. Visiting between men's and women's
residences is permitted only during "Open House" which takes place
during the festivals. The consumption of alcohol is not permitted on campus,
and smoking is restricted to designated areas.
Student Conduct - A desire to give a positive testimony should be the guide
and motive for student conduct. To walk in truth requires a complete spiritual
commitment in every phase of life. Students are expected to follow the standards
established by the university and dorm policy. The university reserves the right
to require withdrawal of students whose standards of conduct conflict seriously
with those which the University seeks to maintain. ¡¤
Social Service Center
The Social Service Center organizes and manages the student program for helping
the poor, the sick and the elderly within our local community. Students are
required to serve on a weekly or monthly basis depending on the type of service
they choose. Through this program students learn responsibility to their neighbors
and community, how to use their time and talents in the service of others, and
what true servant-leadership is all about. Students grow in character, mature
in Christ, frequently learn new skills, and gain confidence in their interaction
with others who may have different backgrounds and life experiences from their
own. ¡¤
Student Government
The student government seeks to foster harmonious relationships between students
and university personnel. They plan, sponsor, and are involved with student
activities such as the Spring and Fall festivals and HanST (Freshman Orientation).
Elections are held each fall semester for the upcoming school year. ¡¤
Handong Press
The Handong Press publishes the monthly school newspaper. The paper focuses
on issues of relevance to the university, the nation, the world, academia, and
more. "I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people."
( Luke 2:10). The Handong Press also seeks to highlight good news and to be
a source of joy for the university community. It frequently testifies to God's
grace in leading and supporting our school. ¡¤
Bands, Clubs, Drama Teams, etc.
Student clubs display their talents by performing during university festivals
and other special events. Through several active clubs on-campus, students can
develop new interests, acquire new skills, and simply enjoy some much needed
leisure time with friends. ¡¤
Intramurals
Soccer, baseball and basketball, to name a few - Intraschool competition, which
promotes friendly relations with one another through games and periodic competition.
