  • EIT501 Understanding Christianity
    This course will cover the basics of the Christian faith and its practices. This will help students understand the foundational beliefs and doctrines of the Christian faith, and will go over what kind of spiritual disciplines mark true disciples of Jesus Christ. It will also give practical steps to learn how to develop a deeper walk with God as well as how to help others understand Christianity.

  • EIT502 Christian Worldview
    This course will begin from Creation and go to the return of Christ and show how we fit into the big picture of God's redemptive plan. Students will learn to how to think critically and see things from a Christian perspective. Students will learn the various worldviews that rule our society and the world today through the study of media, culture, and the Bible. By the end of the course, students should be able to discern more clearly the message of the world and how to see things through a proper Christian perspective.

  • EIT511 Advanced Linguistics Proficiency 1
    Increases the thought processing of speech and the ability to freely speak by working to understand advanced linguistics, the foundation for successful translation and interpretation, by analyzing its usage through vocabulary, pronounciation, semantics and sentence structure, and a wide variety of texts in both Korean and English. In Advanced Linguistics Proficiency 1, emphasis is on the linguistics aspects of both Korean and English.

  • EIT514 Advanced Linguistics Proficiency 2
    Increases the thought processing of speech and the ability to freely speak by working to understand advanced linguistics, the foundation for successful translation and interpretation, by analyzing its usage through vocabulary, pronounciation, semantics and sentence structure, and a wide variety of texts in both Korean and English. In Advanced Linguistics Proficiency 2, emphasis is on situational aspects.

  • EIT513 Public Speaking 1
    This course will develop the student into a more effective public speaker. Students will be taught the basics of effective public speaking and other practical methods of developing this area of rhetoric. Each student will be giving various types of speeches in class and will be evaluated by peers and the professor to mark areas for improvement. All the speeches will be video taped in order for the student to see personal progress throughout the semester as well. Types of speeches that will be covered in class are: impromptu, demonstration, informative and persuasion.

  • EIT516 Public Speaking 2
    This course is for the student who completed Public Speaking 1 and desires to refine and expand his/her ability of public speaking. This course will cover more specific genres of public speaking such as debating and preaching. The students will learn more advanced methods of public speech and will learn how to use his/her Christian faith to convey truth to a public audience. Students of this course will also learn how to prepare and present a testimony towards a Christian witness as well as how to practically prepare a sermon. This will be a valuable course especially for those who will be involved heavily in translating and interpreting for Christian pastors and preachers.

  • EIT512 Study of Terminology and Technical Texts 1
    Develops the ability to deliver and produce technical texts by studying the terminologies and concepts used in a wide category of texts in politics, economics, science and other various fields.

  • EIT515 Study of Terminology and Technical Texts 2
    Continues to develop the ability to deliver and produce technical texts by studying a wide category of complex texts .

  • EIT521 Introduction to Interpretation
    This course studies the theories essential for interpretation and at the same time, develops the ability to analyze the basic message of the departure language and articulately expressing it into arrival language. Also, note-taking, active listening, concentrating, memory training, and other various interpretation skills are taught. Preparatory training for becoming an interpreter is done through a general introduction to interpretation. Many processes related to the heart of interpretation are studied by learning about interpretation and what the requirements are in order to interpret well, and practicing to speak in front of people.

  • EIT522 Sight Translation & Note-Taking
    Interpretation skills are perfected through studying a wide category of texts as texts are verbally translated from departure into arrival language in sight translation and note-taking training conducive for memory in consecutive interpretation.

  • EIT523 Consecutive Interpretation B¡æA
    This course provides consecutive interpretation practices based on memory, then on note-taking, and promotes the ability to use accurate expressions and to accurately convey the contents. Designated students in each class give prepared speeches on specific topics, followed by consecutive interpretation and critiques by other students.

  • EIT524 Consecutive Interpretation A¡æB
    The method and the objective for this course is the same as in EIT523 Consecutive Interpretation B¡æA. The depature language presentation is in Korean and it is interpreted into the arrival language English.

  • EIT531 Introduction to Translation
    An introductory study of translation theories and professional practices; through Korean-English translations and English-Korean translations of the various texts, translation will be treated as a theoretical study as well as a practice.

  • EIT532 Translation Practice
    An introductory study of translation practices; mainly through English-Korean translations of the texts selected from various genres and fields.

  • EIT533 English-Korean Translation
    A English-Korean translation course in an effort to translate English texts into Korean, successfully expressing foreign cultures and sentiments in suitable Korean usages.

  • EIT534 Korean-English Translation
    A Korean-English translation course in an effort to translate Korean texts, successfully expressing Korean culture and sentiments for international readers who understand English.

  • EIT541 Media Translation I
    Trains in English-Korean translation and some Korean-English translation of various texts produced by the modern society's public media.

  • EIT542 Media Translation II
    Continues sophisticated media translation training through the study of complex texts.

    2-1. Interpretation Track

    • EIT551 Simultaneous Interpretation B¡æA 1
      This is an introductory course for simultaneous interpretation. This course, based on the assumption that training in linguistic proficiency and skills for consecutive interpretation have been received, mainly focuses on increasing concentration and skills required to listen and speak simultaneously. The main objective is to practice English to Korean simultaneous interpretation on a wide variety of topics.

    • EIT554 Simultaneous Interpretation B¡æA 2
      Training through the study of a wide category of complex texts. Simultaneous interpretation that is faithful to the original text using accurate expressions is practiced.

    • EIT552 Simultaneous Interpretation A¡æB 1
      Provides interpretation training from the departure language Korean into arrival language English. Concentrates expressions faithful to the original text since it is interpretation from A language to B language.

    • EIT555 Simultaneous Interpretation A¡æB 2
      Training through the study of a wide category of more complex texts. Simultaneous interpretation that is faithful to the original text using accurate expressions is practiced.

    • EIT553 Interpretation Practicum 1
      Under the guidance of the advising professor, a written plan of the project is completed in advance and practical exercises of various interpretation types such as Korean to English consecutive interpretation, English to Korean consecutive interpretation, Korean to English simultaneous interpretation, English to Korean simultaneous interpretation, are carried out. Students will be trained in real life situations as they interpret various meetings, Wednesday chapels, seminars, lectures, etc. After the advising professor makes close observations of the student's growth in interpretation skills as well as their strengths and weaknesses, the professor will evaluate, keep a record through the evaluation sheet, and use it to further guide the student.

    • EIT556 Interpretation Practicum 2
      Under the continuous guidance of the advising professor, a written plan of the project is completed in advance and practical exercises of various types of interpretation are carried out. The professor will keep a record through the evaluation sheet for individual students. Students will interpret in real life situations based on the career the student has decided to pursue after graduation.

    • EIT561 Professional Translation 1
      An intensive and technical translation course on one or two selected fields of study. This course is carried out in two stages; the first stage mainly focusing on translating materials about humanities and society.

    • EIT564 Professional Translation 2
      An intensive and technical translation course on one or two selected fields of study. This course is carried out in two stages; the second stage mainly focusing on translating materials about sciences and electronics.

    • EIT562 Translation of Literary Works
      Teaches how to translate literary works, ranging in genre from poems, to novels, essays and dramas. Students will translate Korean works into English and English works into Korean. They will also learn the differences between the descriptive expressions and literary ones and master these patterns of expressions.

    • EIT563 Seminar in Translation
      As a seminar course of translation, it strives to solve various problems in translation practices from the theoretical perspectives through research and discussions.

    • EIT565
      Studies expressions and vocabularies used in theology of Christian faith and dialectics, counseling, devout lifestyle, and other various fields. Develops the production skills to naturally and accurately translate into the text of the corresponding language.

    • EIT566 Translation project
      A high level translation course. Students select an original text, translate and get it published as a group project.
