Introduction - Homepage
To complement its mission as "God's University", Handong launched a publishing program in 1995 with the motto, "The World through God's Eyes." In 1996, Handong Press published its first newspaper. Now, the "Handong Newspaper" appears monthly and has a circulation of 25,000 copies.
Handong Press belongs to the President's office and is composed of four departments: public information department, planning department, culture desk, and editorial department. The newspaper is produced by many people, however, including both faculty and students.
Every month, a team of twelve people works on a new issue of the newspaper. Handong Newspaper has the largest circulation among university newspapers in Korea. Another pride of Handong Press are its Macintosh computers. Although most university newspapers in Korea do not have computers such as these, they have been used for editing the newspaper since 1997. In addition, on September 1, 2000, Handong Press became a successful pioneer among Korean universities in the area of digital news media (Digital Handong).
With support from the Papyrus Basket Movement, Handong Press aspires to distribute the Handong Newspaper both nationwide and worldwide. By expanding its circulation, the university will encourage cultural and educational interchange between Handong University and universities around the world.
Besides giving a voice to the people of Handong, Handong Press also promotes the values of Christian culture and encourages students to explore ways to change the world. By challenging young Christians to explore new cultures and to see the world through God's eyes, Handong Press strives to fulfill its mission and its motto.
In the future, Handong Press will remain faithful to its principles of openness and receptivity. People inside and outside of HGU will always be welcome to share their thoughts and ideas on the pages of the Handong Newspaper. We will do our best to present and promote Christian values among the university students.
