ICT based Global Creative and Innovative Human Talents Nurturing Foundation of Handong Global University hosted an invitational program for Ethiopian university students. The goal was to raise the interest in African regions and the second goal was to revitalize mutual exchange between the two countries from February 18 to 25.
The five students who were recommended by the House of Representatives of Ethiopia entered Korea on February 18. They had a time to discuss and speak with professors and students of Handong.
The visitors went to Yungduk Wind Generation Complex, the Renewable Energy Museum on Feb. 19, looked around Posco and Jukdo Market on Feb. 20, visited the Smart city of Samsung Gumi, the Daegu Police Station and the City Hall of Pohang on Feb 21, Hyundai Motors on Feb. 22, and the Nuclear Power Plant in Gyeongju to learn about various industries and the economy of Korea.
On February 21, the daughter of the Mayor of Adama, the second largest city of Ethiopia, Ms. Luhama Abebe, met the Mayor of Pohang, Kangduk Lee. She delivered a personally hand written letter from Mayor Adama hoping for mutual exchange between the two cities. The Mayor of Pohang, Kangduk Lee, said, “Future development potentials are high. I hope that both cities will begin various exchanges in the future.”

Last September, President Soon-Heung Chang invited ABADULA Gemeda Dago, House of Representatives of Ethiopia to Korea. He was granted an honorary doctoral degree. Back then, the invitational program for Ethiopian university students was discussed.
Bernavas Fossil, one of the participants said, “I really appreciate joining this program at Handong Global University. It was very impressive to visit wider and focused facilities that are unlike Ethiopia.”
According to Seungkyu Jin, one of the program participants, “I was so proud of my country, Korea, when I looked around at the major industrial facilities and cultural heritage sites with my new Ethiopian friends. I guess that both the students from Ethiopia and Handong stimulated each other during this period.”
* ICT based Global Creative and Innovative Human Talents Nurturing Foundation of Handong Global University was selected as a specialized project in the regional university hosted by the Ministry of Education in July 2014. In order to nurture creative and innovative global talents using ICT, students in various majors joining together to recognize on-site problems and set out countermeasures by operating learning program, visiting global enterprises, operating research with international organizations and regional studies.
