Undergraduates of the School of Mechanical Control Engineering, HGU published a paper in an international academic paper, Science Citation Index as co-first authors.
In the SCI international academic paper ‘Smart Materials and Structures’, student Hyungi Kim and Heashin Kim, Undergraduates of the School of Mechanical Control Engineering, HGU published a paper on research on the development of a smart vibration insulation system by using magnetism variable gelatin, a smart material that has variable stiffness characteristics, under the guidance of Professor Youngkeun Kim, the Corresponding Author.
This research paper was published online last December and offline this January. The paper describes a small-scale design to operate a vibration insulation system with low power by using magnetism variable gelatin, a smart material that has variable stiffness characteristics depending on the power of the magnetic field. The research result recognizes its possibility as a component of a variable stiffness control device that can be applied in industrial sectors including robots, automobiles, and medical devices.
Hyunggi Kim said, “I had a valuable experience to perform in-depth research based on the accumulated knowledge through academic courses of the undergraduate school and as a result, we were able to publish a paper in an international journal so I feel so proud.” Also, Heashin Kim, mentioned, “My research itself was a very valuable experience but I really appreciate that my achievements are recognized internationally.”
According to Professor Youngkeun Kim of the School of Mechanical Control Engineering, HGU, “This is very exceptional - to publish a paper in an excellent international academic paper in this field. We were able to achieve good results since the students had passion and performed research by designing a variable stiffness system with low power and applying it in various industrial fields including the vibration insulation of cameras for drones.”
The research was performed with the support of advanced research supportive projects of Nurturing Converged Talents in Sustainable Energy and Environment in Gyeongbuk· Far East and National Research Foundation.
