Handong Global University newly opened the School of Entrepreneurship and In-formation Communication Technology, ICT of HGU from the second semester of last year. The Opening of the School was confirmed last June with the designation of the Program for Industrial Needs-Matched Education (PRIME) hosted by the Ministry of Education.
The world is rapidly being transformed in complicated ways in the upcoming era of knowledge and the industrial innovation that has converged with knowledge and information after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Industrial Revolutions. With this trend, a new industrial structure is expected to appear and require adoptable talented people who have competencies such as start-ups, problem understanding and resolving, and team work & technology utilization abilities.
The slogan of the School is ‘Creation beyond Technology: Creates future with innovation of stewardship’ and this includes two meanings. First, even if it is outstanding, human technology is under the creation and providence of God and second, to prepare for the future through innovative value creation, going beyond conventional industrial structures.
The school was designed followed by the curriculum of International Entrepreneurship Major of the Global EDISON Academy, ICT Convergence Major of Creative Converged Education Center, and other prestigious universities. Majors within the Schools consist of Global Entrepreneurship, ICT Start-ups, and Converged ICT.
The Global Entrepreneurship Major aims to nurture business practice competency including business plans, realization, and operations based on entrepreneurship. The Converged ICT Major’s objective is to nurture experts in information and analysis who will take the lead in the future knowledge industry by focusing on creative problem solving competencies through converged ICT research and its utilization competency. Also, the ICT Start-ups Major has a goal to develop practice-oriented human talents who will lead the future knowledge and wisdom industry by learning about start-ups competency and ICT utilization competencies.
According to John Ju, Senior who chose the ICT Start-ups major, “I would like to practice the slogan of HGU, Why not change the world, by actualizing and resolving its solutions toward many problems that we face through these differentiated curriculums.”
The School of Entrepreneurship and In-formation Communication Technology, ICT has an academic professionalism that is similar to curriculums of prestigious universities. The School provides similar curriculums of Entrepreneurship and Innovation of MIT, Management Science & Engineering of Stanford University, Industrial Engineering Department, Management Information Engineering Department, and Knowledge Service Engineering Department. In addition, the School plans to operate leading curriculums to nurture future-oriented human talents through various project-based classes by linking other Schools.
For the School, Professor Shinik Kang, Keehong Kim, Sangwhan Kim, Jaehyo Kim, Hakju Kim, Sungyoung Shin, Abraham Lee, Youngjun Choi, Changbyeom Choi, Hyebong Choi, Dasung Han are the faculty and more professors will be recruited to reflect industrial changes. The fund supported by the Ministry of Education will be used for the remodeling cost of Evenezer remodeling, various tools and equipment for practice and experiment, and the establishment of advanced classrooms, experimental labs, and open labs.
In addition, various kinds of scholarships including GAP Excellence Scholarship, Excellent Student Scholarship, and GAP Improvement Scholarship will be given and exclusive financial supports are also planned. Besides this, various benefits for students such as operating camps and capacity building events will be provided.
According to the Dean of the School Sangwhan Kim, “The social structure will be changed and centered on start-ups and even now it is so. Our school aims to nurture innovative and entrepreneurship competency so I expect your continued interests with the mindset of starting a new era through the learning spirit of entrepreneurship competency, problem-solving competency, converged technology, communication competency, and ICT utilization competency. “
