-A Sum of a 105 million won provided to a 110 Missionary Kids and Pastors Kids
On April 5, Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) held an orientation and award ceremony for the Joshua Scholarship at the Hyoam Chapel Annex. President Soon-Heung Chang and the 110 recepients of the Joshua Scholarship attended this event.
The Joshua Scholarship was created in the spring semester of 2016 to financially support pastor kids and missionary kids who have a hard time paying tuition or living expenses. This year’s award ceremony proceeded in the following order, an orientation session, introduction of the scholarship’s purpose, words of encouragement from President Chang, the awarding of the scholarship, presentation of personal stories, an information session, and finally a Q&A session.
“You all have a deep understanding of the gospel, command of multiple languages and global acumen, artistic talent, amicable sociability and other strengths that are required in this era. You especially have an understanding of other cultures and a unique creativity based on this understanding that are both very important when it comes to helping solve our neighbor’s problems,” said President Chang in his words of encouragement. He also added, “I have high hopes that you, who received and gave love and underwent the intellectual, relational and spiritual training at Handong, will perform well your duty of becoming the light and salt that stands up against the darkness and troubles in this world.”

He also added, “I pray that you will always take pride in being God’s sons and daughters and do your best in performing the responsibilities entrusted to you.”
This year’s scholarship grants a total of a 105 million won to 110 students, and the recipients will be supported for one year.
Scholarship recipient Han Gil Park (Senior, School of Counseling and Social Work) said, “This was a time that I vowed to never forget the love and grace I received from my benefactor and live a life based on Handong’s spirit of ‘returning to others what I have learned here.’” Yae Won Lee (Sophomore, School of Spatial Environment System Engineering) said, “Pastor kids experience many difficulties in our lives, and I am so thankful and amazed that God has provided for us.”
The pastor kids and missonary kids who receive the scholarships will be matched one-to-one with their respective benefactors, and the students will write thank you letters and share their prayer requests with their benefactors and will continue their fellowship by attending annual get-together events.
