CEO Jinhong Kim of Keumwon Business donated 30 million won for foreign students of HILS or Handong International Law School of Handong Global University. Keumwon Business granted scholarships for three years consecutively, including scholarship funding. The scholarship was delivered to seven foreign students of HILS.
In the scholarship granting ceremony, held at Moot Court of HILS, CEO Kim said, “Handong Global University has nurtured globalized human talents as one of the representative and prestigious universities in our region. I hope that the talents will grow as international lawyers who are secured with global competencies and good sense.”
HILS was established in 2002 under the goal of operating an American style law school for the first time in Korea and as of today, the school has nurtured 337 American lawyers in seven States. The test pass rate is high, rating over 71% compared to the number of graduates. In this year, the number of freshmen is 51 and among them 9 students or 17% are foreigners. The foreign students came from Nepal, Laos, Mongolia, Chad, Cambodia, Cameroon, Korean-Canadian and Korean-American. The composition of foreign students represents the globalized competency of HILS.
The seven recipients of the scholarship are talented students in the field of domestic law and as international lawyers when they go back to their countries. Many foreign graduates of HILS are working in local global enterprises or domestic law firms. This shows that the effort of HGU to nurture Korean friendly relationships and foreign talent has born fruit.
According to Anar Alimaa, freshmen recipients of Keumwon Business, “This scholarship will have a good impact on many foreign students including myself. I deeply appreciate the donor who gave me this chance.”
HILS is achieving great results in various domestic and international mock competitions, including receiving a high score in the International Negotiation Competition, International Arbitration Moot, Mock Court on WTO/FTA, and the Humanitarian Law Competition. In particular, HILS won the International Humanitarian Mock Competition two years consecutively in 2013 and 2014 which was co-hosted by the Republic of Korea National Red Cross and International Committee of Red Cross.
