Handong Global University was designated as a ‘Software Hub University Project‘ by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning. With these designations, HGU will receive seven billon won for four years and the fund will be used for  the establishment of SW training infrastructure, an implementation fund for academic research and development, scholarships for SW majors, an activity fund for internship and academic capstone, SW education fees for elementary, middle and high school students, and a joint research and development for SW fields. The project will continue for the next two years depending on results.

 The ‘Software Hub University Project‘ supports the university to lead the genuine dissemination of SW values by innovating SW education that is reflected by the demands from industrial fields and by enhancing national, business’, and student competitiveness.

HGU provided a converged SW infrastructure by designating SW education for all the students since after its establishment in 1995. The 298% of undergraduates are receiving programming course as of last year compared to a total of 800 students.

With this designation, HGU aims to nurture talented people in the fields of SW who are endowed with professionalism and talent in the era of the 4^th industrial innovation. Domestic SW education groups will be combined as one of the Converged IT Schools and the number of talented students will be increased and School of Machine Learning and Industrial-educational track in the graduate school will be started. In addition, a converged educational system for nurturing SW talent who are have professionalism and adaptability will be established with industry and academy cooperation and all the students will receive coding education.

With this, Handong Global University plans to disseminate the SW values through activities of Handong SW Educational Volunteering Group by contributing research and development, education, and human talent.

President Soon-Heung Chang said, “The biggest characteristic of the 4^th industrial revolution is trans-connection. In order to realize this, the most important thing is to nurture SW development talent. In the new era where co-relationship is high, HGU will take the lead to bring about the development of local communities and the world by nurturing the wisest talent who are secured with problem solving competencies. I hope that HGU will serve as bridge to reach out the 4^th industrial innovation and software.

HGU received an ‘A’ grade in the structure innovation result released by the Ministry of Education in 2015. In addition, the school was selected for a CK project, ACE project, We-up project, contributing university for higher education project, and PRIME project.
