A Deed of covenant ceremony for ‘Ha Yong-jo Donation Fund of HGU’ was held on March 30 at Seoul headquarters of HGU. Joyful Hospital promised to donate 250 million won for five years in the form of 50 million a year. In this ceremony, President Chang of HGU, Professor Jaecheon Won, and Dr. Joseph Ji, Director Yoon-sik Kang of Joyful Hospital and Young-yeon Lee, and Byeonggi Song were joined.

According to Director Yoon-sik Kang of Joyful Hospital, “It is my great honor and pleasure to donate a scholarship to Handong Global University to nurture the wisest Christian leaders and it has a significant meaning to forge constant cooperation through various forms or initiatives between Handong Global University and Joyful Church.”

Joyful Hospital is well known for the best herniotomy surgery in Korea with vast experience of over 11,000 operations and Director Kang developed a none-artificial membrane, which has become a great help to many patients suffering from a rupture. Director Kang is also supporting marginalized people in the field of medicine by serving as President of Alumni Association for the School of Surgery of Seoul National University.

 ‘Ha-young Cho Donation Fund of HGU’ is established in commemoration of the last pastor Ha who committed his life to spread the gospel in the world with the transformation of churches by suggesting macro vision. The scholarship aims to nurture talented people who have such vision and leadership. The fund will be used for inviting excellent professors, setting up research funds, and missionary activities of students beside the scholarship for students.

President Chang said, “Today is very meaningful since the Joyful Hospital committed to the scholarship as the first donator. I sincerely hope that the hospital will grow as one of the hospitals that contribute to the health for the people by leading the intestinal diseases field in Korea. I look forward to both HGU and Joyful Hospital further enhancing our research and cooperation. “

Both HGU and Joyful Hospital signed an agreement on medical support cooperation last November. Back then, the Joyful Hospital agreed to provide medical services and a medical cost discount for the staff and their family members of HGU.
