On the morning of 18th, HGU’s student cafeteria was packed with students dining with President Chang Soon-Heung. Despite it being midterm exam period, more students came than usual, likely because the breakfast came without a price tag.
The free breakfast event is a collaborative event organized and sponsored by HGU President Chang Soon-Heung, Shinsegae Foods, and the student council, in an attempt to encourage quality study habits among the student body. (One of which is remembering to eat breakfast.)
HGU President Chang Soon-Heung stated, “I wish for our students who study hard in achieving their dreams and visions, to not neglect their health. I want to show students support and love during an otherwise stressful exam period.”
Since his inauguration in 2014, HGU President Chang Soon-Heung has conveyed his heartfelt desire of encouraging students through offering various snacks at his own expense during every exam period. In particular, from the latter half of 2015, he hosts and sponsors in part, ‘Go for it, Midterm Exam!,’ an event offering free breakfast to every student.
Student Body President Kim Gichan mentioned, “The current student council has prepared this event, in hopes of students receiving strength from eating a proper breakfast during exam period.”
Participant Kim Gihyeon, Jr. (Counselling Psychology & Social Welfare,) said, “I came to eat breakfast this morning after hearing about this event from my friends. I think I can do better on exams, especially given the mindset the president has towards our wellbeing.”
Through this event, the total number of students participating reached about 500, an estimated three times as usual. Manager of Shinsegae Foods, Park Soyoon added, “I am increasingly worried about the number of students who skip breakfast every year. I hope that, through this event, students will remember to eat, and spend their school days wisely.”
