Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) has conducted a signboard hanging ceremony for the Software-driven University in Hyundong Hall at 4 p.m., May 15th. Last March Handong Global University was elected for the Software-driven University Support Project, sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning. Through this the school aims to train Software Professionals that are equipped with the expertise and character required in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Approximately 30 participants are associated with the project some from the Gyeongbuk province include, Handong Global University President Soon-Heung Chang, Pohang City Mayor Lee Kang-Deok, National Assemblymen Jung Jae Kim and Myung Jae Park, President of Pohang City Assembly Myung Ho Moon, Chairman of Pohang Chamber of Commerce & Industry Kwang Soo Yoon, Institute for Information and Communication Technology Promotion Human Resources Division Director Ryung Choi, have participated in the ceremony. Additionally, there was time for discussion and introduction of the main operating plans for the project.
In an effort to develop into a software-driven university, Handong plans to combine software education organizations within the school by founding a IT convergence college. This will expand its manpower training capacity, operate a department specializing in machine learning, and offer a graduate school academic-industrial curriculum track. In addition, it seeks to build a convergence training system that produces software professionals with expertise, field adaptability, and a professional mind. Not only that, the school also has a policy of offering courses on coding to non-computer majors by forging an industry-university collaborative education system with local and national-wide companies.
In addition, Handong plans to join in the efforts of transforming Pohang and Gyeongbuk province into the center of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by contributing through research and development, education, and talent producing. It also seeks to spread software values through activities such as the ‘Handong Software Educational Volunteer Program.’
President Chang has stated, “We are amid a new era in which everything is becoming highly interconnected, and Handong will be at forefront of developing the local community and the world by producing the best software professionals armed with problem solving skills who will be the leaders of this new era. He also added, “Using the opportunity of being chosen for this project, I wish Handong to take on the role of priming water in assisting the city of Pohang to become the hub for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and software-driven city that leads in the software high-tech industry.
Meanwhile, not only did Handong Global University receive the highest ranking of Class A in the results of the assessment of university structural reform announced by the Ministry of Education, it has also been chosen for a number of government-funded projects such as the CK Project, ACE Project, WE-UP Project, Support project for universities that contributed to the normalization of high school education, and the Prime Project.
