On September 23rd, 6 teams composed of Handong university students received awards at WE_UP Day UCC contest which was held at Ehwa Womans University.

At this event, 10 enterprise organizations from 14 universities participated in this event and the ‘Engineering Drama UCC Contest’ was the key program of this event. Out of the 10 video clips that passed preliminary round, which the organizers strictly selected, 6 of them were made by Handong students. They were able to receive 3 prizes. First, the grand prize of 2.0million Won, second the excellence award of 1.0million Won, and lastly the participation prizes which consists of 4 teams, each receiving 300,000 Won.

Seul-Gi Lee, Jia Yoo, Yeong-In Lee and Hye-Bin Kim, who presented ‘I am a female engineer’, received the ‘President Award of the National Research Foundation of Korea’ which is the grand prize. Ha-Yeong Kim, Su-Hyeon Suh and Ye-Ji Yoo, who presented ‘How much do we know about engineering students’, received the ‘Chairman Award of WE_UP Day Promotion Committee’ which is the excellence award. 

Participation awards were given to Ju-Hui Chae, Ye-Rang Lee and Ji-Hyeon Choi of ‘Engineers who light the world and change’, Yun-Gu Kang, Ji-In Kim, Ra-Bin Cho and Da-Sol Kang of ‘Female engineering students’, Jang-Ho Park, Min-Jin Kim, Seon-Yeong Kim and So-Ri Kang of ‘Female engineers who light up the world’, and Yu-Jin Kim, Deok-Hwa Kim and Ha-Min Kim of ‘As one engineering student’.

Hosted by WE-UP common link function enterprise, this event was held to help female engineers and preliminary university students to map their future and explore careers through observing and experiencing the enterprise’s various works and programs. At the event, in addition to screening and awarding ceremony of UCC contest winners, a career research talk concert, an engineering idea contest, and many other activities were also held.

Seul-Gi Lee (senior) who received the grand prize said “I give thanks that design major belongs to the College of Engineering, it gave me an opportunity to participate in this contest. Thank God for giving me such a big award that I never expected. Making this UCC, I got to think again about the prejudice we unconsciously hold toward female engineering students in Korea. I send support to the future female engineers who will overcome numerous prejudices and light the world.”

Meanwhile, WE-UP (Women in Engineering Undergraduate Leading Program) started as one of the enterprises that has been subsidized by the Ministry of Education since the last year. Including Handong Global University and Ehwa Girls University, there are ten enterprise organizations from fourteen different universities that are carrying out the business.
