Handong Global University (President Chang Soon-Heung) has made efforts to push ahead a joint research cooperation with Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (President Jeon Yu-taek, PUST) in North Korea.
Along with professors from both universities and President Chang of HGU and President Jeon of PUST held a meeting March 13th and 21st at Handong University, to discuss joint interests and ways to cooperate.
Not only the two university presidents, but also Lee Jae-young, Director of Handong Industry Cooperation, Park Yeong-chun, Director of Handong United Korea Center, Park Won-gon, Director of Handong International Affairs, Kim Pil-ju, Director of PUST Agricultural Science School, Lee Byeong-mu Director of Dental School, and Choi Se-yeol Director of Industrial Information Study Center, participated in this meeting.
Above all, the two universities decided to cooperate on: ▲Food supply for North Korea ▲Sanitation ▲Environment preparation for Korea’s unification.
President Chang Soon-Heung stated, “Handong University is always preparing for the unification of Korea, and it is a pleasure for us to maintain an interchange with PUST. Particularly on March 21st, President Jeon Yu-taek and his wife have come to the Wednesday chapel and shared a meaningful sermon for our students. It was a great time for us Koreans to get an invaluable sense of duty regarding the unification of Korea, and also to build our own visions.”
PUST is a special purpose university made by a joint collaboration of North and South Korea, located in Pyongyang City on the southern side of the Taedong River. It was established by the Educational and Cultural Cooperation of Northeast Asia Foundation, a Christian organization in Korea, with joint work from the North Korean department of education. The university opened in October 2010.
PUST is the only international university in North Korea where all classes are held in English, and also where they teach about capitalism and management. Up to now, PUST has churned out 400 undergraduate students and 120 graduate students, and there are 550 students currently attending class.
