Handong Global University (President Chang Soon-Heung) invited chairman of the Aisa Institute Lee Man-Yeol(Emanuel Pastreich) to give a special lecture in All Nations Hall room 104 on November 5th.
As a Doctor at Harvard University, Professor Lee Man-Yeol is the author to 《Greater South Korea that only South Koreans didn't know about 》,《World-renowned scholars talk about Korea's future 》,《Dr. Harvard's Korean Journal: Life is not a speed, it's a direction》.
During the lecture, Professor Lee Man-Yeol suggested that literature, aesthetics, and philosophy, which are the great stem of liberal arts, could be applied to science and technology society, and that based on humanities, not only would inter-Korean problems be solved, but also global problems such as climate change, resources, and other social problems.
Especially, his humanistic insight, which analyzed the merits and demerits of Korean society from a third party's perspective, provided a platform for domestic and foreign students to view their problems more objectively.
Kim Jun-Hyeok (Student of '16) who attended the lecture commented, "The analysis of Korean society from a foreigner's point of view helped me to see something that had not been seen before, and it was a good opportunity to think about how humanities can be applied to modern science and technology society in practical terms."
