-Special lecture, thesis guidance and workshop held at Uzbek University for undergraduates to graduate students
From January 7th (Mon.) to 11th (Fri.), Handong Global University (President Chang Soon-heung) held a joint curriculum for government enterprise officials and graduate students at the Republican Graduate School of Business and Management in Tashkent, Uzbek. In addition, we visited and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation for the development of higher education in Uzbek with the Tashkent State Institute Oriental Studies.
Professor Ahn Jinwon and 4 other faculty members of Handong Global University held special lectures, thesis guidance and workshops for 3 days under the theme of 'Project Management' and 'Business and Management' at the Republican Graduate School of Business and Management. This seminar was attended by middle managers of government enterprises in Uzbek. It provided lectures on how to look at various issues in the field and how to solve problems in consideration of the issues, and thus strengthened the ability to identify issues and the problem-solving capacity at a macroscopic viewpoint.

In addition, through the interview with Dean Rustam Abduraupov of the Republican Graduate School of Business and Management, we discussed the current situation of exchange and cooperation between the two universities and discussed the efforts of universities for the development of Uzbek. While discussing the current progress of joint curriculum up to 2018 and sharing opinions about measures to strengthen cooperation in 2019, Dean Abduraupov said, "In the future, I hope that through further exchange and cooperation, students will be provided with an international perspective on diverse issues and a variety of experiences, so that they can be provided a diverse knowledge base that will actually help them in the field."
In particular, Professor Jee Beomha said in an interview with O'zbekiston 24, a public broadcasting in Uzbek, "We visited Uzbek twice every year for the past five years and provided cooperation through dispatching experts, holding international conferences, conducting lectures and workshops, and sharing various knowledge for training future talents in Uzbek. Creating a new industry to promote the economic development of Uzbek is a very important task, and we will continue to provide innovative ideas and experiences for this."

Kodirov Nasimjon, a student who participated in the joint curriculum, said, "Korean professors shared a variety of issues and knowledges and thus provided a wide viewpoint of the problems faced by the Uzbek economy, which is moving away from the planned economy and promoting the development of the market economy." Another student, Xiliqov Behzod said, "It was a very necessary lecture for me as a project manager at a financial institution and I gained a sense of responsibility and a sense of challenge as to how to apply it to Uzbek."

In addition, professors of Handong Global University visited Dongbang University on the 11th and signed a MOU for a more systematic and active exchange and cooperation between the two universities. "During the past year, Handong Global University has provided various cooperative activities such as dispatching professors and holding lectures, and they provided clues as to the direction in which Uzbek’s higher education institutions should face in the era of globalization,” said the President of Dongbang University. “In the future, I hope that we will continue to cultivate Uzbek future talents that will lead the globalization era through more practical and in-depth educational cooperation."
Professor Rhee, Jong-Chul of Handong Global University conducted a lecture on Dongbang University with the topic of "Key Elements of Korean Economic Development." He said, "The explosive economic development of Korea began with the government's five-year plan, and long-term plans, challenges and research & development were essential for a sustainable growth." In additions, Professor Lee, Sang-Wha said, “In order to survive in a rapidly changing world, we need talents with creativity, problem defining and resolving ability, resilience, and so on. It is necessary to train young students to carry the future of Uzbekistan."
* UNESCO UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) was established in 1992 with the aim of universities in developed countries supporting the universities in developing countries by networking with them to reduce the knowledge gap and to develop self-reliance. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first university in Korea to manage UNITWIN in 2007, and Sookmyung Women's University in 2014 and Korea Broadcasting and Telecommunications University in 2017 as UNITWIN host universities.
* As part of the Ministry of Education's ODA program, Handong Global University has signed agreements with universities in developing countries, centering on the government's key partners, among the low-income countries classified by the World Bank, to strengthen each university’s capacity, and has established a regional base center in developing countries. Handong Global University is currently helping 71 universities and institutions in 28 developing countries (as of March 2018).
