『Human Rights of Disabled Persons of North Korea in light of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities』(Knowledge Community), written by Handong Global University Reunification and Peace Research Institution team, has been published.
This book looks comprehensively at human rights and welfare of disabled persons of North Korea, shedding light on their general lives based on a 3-year joint research by the peace research institution team.
The main contents of the book deals with ▲ Understanding North Korean Society ▲ Transition Process of North Korean Disability Laws and Policies ▲ Investigations on Conditions of Disabled Persons of North Korea. The publication is especially significant, as it is Korea’s first socio-scientific research finding using an analysis that applies UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to North Korea.
Meanwhile, Handong Global University Reunification and Peace Research Institution have translated and published 『International Persons of Disability Rights Manual Based on UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities』 back in 2016. This year’s publication is a research finding from the manual’s application to the North Korean society.
Professor Won Jae-Chun, supervisor to the research, have said, “This has a high application possibility to be used as a rudimentary academic material to enhance the awareness, laws, and welfare policies towards vulnerable social groups such as persons of disabilities upon reunification of South and North Korean society, research nature of which should be continued.”
