Handong Global University has been selected for ‘2019 Leading University for Reunification Education Project’, which is supervised by the Ministry of Unification, in February 28th.
Having been selected by this project, Handong Global University will receive a government grant of 170 million won annually. The grant will last a total of 4 years, in which an interim assessment will take place two years later. The government grant will be used to ■Enhance reunification elective education ■Develop track for reunification major ■Cooperate with Pyeong-Yang University of Science and Technology ■Organize local and global reunification network ■Establish and expand Reunification Bigdata Center.
The goal of ‘Leading University for Reunification Education’ project is to nurture Universities with leading implementation of reunification education, developing and expanding the outstanding model of reunification education. Handong Global University, Kang Won University, and In Je University have been selected this year in addition to the first 6 Universities previously selected in 2016.

After his inauguration in 2014, President Chang Soon-Heung of Handong Global University has presented ‘Reunified Korea Project’ as one of ’10 projects that change the world’, establishing a supervisory organization ‘Handong Reunified Korea Center’ in 2015. Reunified Korea Project has been continually pursued, cooperating with Pyeong-Yang University of Science and Technology in 2018 and signing a MOU to create a Reunification Center in the DMZ.
Park Young-Chun, head of Handong Global University’s Reunified Korea Center, expressed that “through the selection of the project, Handong Global University will play a leading role in reunification education as a university preparing for reunification of Korea and changing the world in the pursuit of the mission of the times”.
