Handong Global University (President Chang Soon-Heung) is planning to develop experts in laser and light fusion fields with support from the government.
Handong Global University has been selected for the 2019 project to strengthen the capabilities of the industry-specialized workforce supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy and the Korea Institute for Industrial Technology Promotion. It will train master and doctorate-level students with a total of 7.2 billion won in support over the next five years. The project is a curriculum specialized in graduate schools and above, aimed to train R&D professionals in the laser and light fusion fields, which are considered a key basic technology in the era of the fourth industrial revolution.
A total of eight organizations, including Handong Global University, will participate in the project. Handong Global University is the project organizer and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Pusan National University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Korea Maritime University are participating institutions that form specialized tracks to run masters and doctorate courses.
It will share infrastructure for high-tech equipment with the Korea Institute of Machinery, Kyungpook National University, and the forward laser support center at Chonnam Techno Park and run short-term education courses and relating with the Industry-University-Institute Collaboration. Fifty-five other companies in laser and light fusion fields will participate as consortiums and operate on-site practical training courses focusing on industrial, academic and joint projects.
Handong Global University is planning to establish ▲an education system for experts in laser and light convergence technology ▲business-friendly research system ▲sustainable industrial, academic, and joint industrial clusters. "In line with the reputation of the education-oriented university, we will contribute to the development of the nation's industries by fostering masters and doctorate-level students who will lead new industries in the future," said President Chang Soon-Heung of Handong Global University.
