Handong Global University conducts Joint Education Program and Comprehensive Regional Development Operation with Universities from Mongolian and Chinese (Inner Mongolia) Universities

- Social Creatinnovation in Mongolia Program was held for UFE Students of Mongolia

Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) hosted the Social Creatinnovation Camp for Graduate MBA Students of University of Finance and Economy (UFE) located in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, from July 20 through 24.

 

Professor Gi-Seon Yoo along with 4 students and Professor Soo-Young Chang from POSTECH operated this program for the duration of four days along with UFE on a topic of ‘Regional Development through Social Innovation’. This program, geared at opening a Sustainable Social Innovation Company in a developing nation, is a field-oriented convergence education program in consideration of social and economic environment, beyond classroom lectures, but a project-oriented course that solves problems inherent in the real community.

During this camp, programs were held with goals to present strategic establishment project for Sustainable Tourism Business and propose strategic proposals for the Study on the Sixth Industrial-Based Sustainable Tourism for the Self-Sustaining Development of the local districts of Mongolia. Thus, the MBA student participants of the camp from Mongolia and China (Inner Mongolia) presented plans for Social Innovation Items Actualization through Sustainable Tourism and connected theoretical and strategic measures to solve related problems with on-site projects. Also, the program invited Professor Batkhuyag Ganbaatar, Professor Munkhbayar Vanjil and other Mongolian Regional Specialists and Tourism Field Experts to analyze problems that actually occur in the real-world situation.

On the discussion for the improvement for education program of this camp, along with professors from South Korea, Mongolia, and China (Inner Mongolia), there were debates on the problems and solutions on the current Joint Education Program. President Munkhbayar of UFE said, “I strongly believe this camp will become a good opportunity to develop capacity from various viewpoints by exchanging and sharing ideas and opinions of the three countries, not just from one country.” He also said, “Finding strategies for sustainable tourism as a springboard for creating a sixth industrial revolution structure in the face of the phenomenon of regional hollowing out due to urban concentration and the resulting imbalance between regions in the process of industrialization in the center of large cities will be an important starting point for social innovation in Mongolia as well as Inner Mongolia.”

 

Meanwhile, Professor Gi-Seon Yoo, President Munkhbayar, and Professor Jilei from Inner Mongolian Finance & Economy University decided to cooperatively host this program every year, and agreed to link with Universities from Nepal, Cambodia, and other Asian developing nations to make this Joint Education Program a leading Asian program.

* UNITWIN, University Twinning and Networking is a program created by UNESCO in 1992 for the purpose of educating developing nation’s universities, supporting their research institutes, reducing gaps in knowledge, and growing their ability for self-reliance through a network of universities from developed and developing nations. Handong Global University in 2007 became the first to be designated as a host university of UNITWIN.​
