Handong Global University (President Soon Heung Chang), as a part of UNESCO UNITWIN program, held Joint Education Program with University of Computer Studies, Yangon, Myanmar (UCSY) from July 9th to 12th.

For enhancement in ICT education, Handong Global University held special lecture and held seminar on strengthening ICT capabilities  for 45 people including professors and students of UCSY. Professors Sung Geum Young, Hye Bong Choi, Da Sung Han of Handong Global  University and four TAs participated in the Joint Education Program and to increase the quality and the effect of the learning, the ICT capability strengthening seminar was focused on the combining of theoretical lectures of Computer-ICT subject (Bluetooth, Big Data, Computer Graphics, and Virtual Reality) with practical lectures (making of ARDUINO experimental kits, and Bluetooth experiments).

“The special lecture held at UCSY was on Big data, Virtual reality, Bluetooth communications, which play an important role in Internet of Things (IoTs) and ICT technology. It was a good opportunity for the professors and graduate students of UCSY to learn difficult subjects in a short period of time.” said professor Geum-Young Sung who lectured on Bluetooth control. Professor Sung added that “It was an opportunity to enhance the level and quality of education of ICT and Computer education at University of Computer Studies Yangon through the special lectures those were held before and this special lecture. We are considering ways to conduct joint projects between small number of students at UCSY and students at Handong Global University through remote lectures. We hope the promoting of academic exchange between UCSY become the very foundation of development of educational and civilian exchanges between Korea and Myanmar.”

Mie Mie Thet Thwin, president of UCSY, said “Handong Global University and UCSY have worked together to implement the joint education program since 2014, enabling our university faculties and students to receive the advanced education of Korea. We look forward to maintain close relationship with Handong Global University and hope our joint education program develop more in the future.” during discussion on joint projects between two universities and remote lectures for graduate students of UCSY. 

*UNESCO UNITWIN (UNITWIN, University Twinning and Networking): A program created by UNESCO in 1992 aimed to help universities and research institutes of developing countries through forming network with universities of developed countries to reduce the knowledge gap and foster self-sufficiency of developing countries. In 2007, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN university of Korea. Currently, Handong Global University is supporting 62 universities and 16 Institutions from 30 different countries around the world (As of December, 2018).​
